Gordon Beckham gets promotedJune 4th, 2009 - 7:47 pm ICT by GD
The newly designated Wilson Betemit has been given the assignment of calling up last year’s first-round pick, Gorden Beckham, from Triple-A. Betemit will be carrying out the assignment on Thursday. In the year 2008, Beckham was place in the no. 8 position in the overall standings of the Georgia University and just last week he was promoted to the Triple-A.
Gordon Beckham in his stint between Double-A and Triple-A recorded a .326 with 23 doubles, four home runs and 25 RBIs in 45 games. In his overall baseball career till date, Beckham has less than 200 plate appearances in the minors. However, this does not seem to concern the White Sox management as they are not calling him up just to warm up the bench and run around in the dugout. For the White Sox, he will be playing a second, shortstop and third base.
A glance at Beckham’s past games tells us that he has got the ammunition for a good pop and he is also disciplined when he is at the plate. But it must be kept in mind that his defensive prowess has not been tested as yet. Therefore, it will be a bit early to tell how Beckham will perform defensively. Most of the reports coming in from scoutings indicate that Beckham has an average arm and the fact that his stature is not physically overwhelming most of the game lovers think that he good as long as he is limited to the second base.
Till last June’s draft Gordon Beckham was not even among the first five hitters, however, from the 2008 draft, Beckham will surely be among the first five hitters to appear in the upcoming major league games for the Sox.
