Gooch to be England’s full-time batting coach
September 6th, 2011 - 4:01 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Sep 6 (IANS) Graham Gooch is set to become England’s full-time batting coach after a two-year stint with the team on a consultancy basis.
Gooch, a former England captain, was roped in by Andy Flower as a part-time batting coach. He will leave his post as Essex batting coach at the end of the season. Gooch, however, will remain at Essex in an ambassadorial role.
His work will primarily be with the team during Test series and he will not be required for One-day commitments, Daily Telegraph reported.
Gooch’s first tour will be to the United Arab Emirates, where England play Pakistan in a four-match Test series in the new year.
Gooch’s high standard of run making and coining the term “daddy” hundreds (for the scores above 150) have spurred English batsmen Alastair Cook, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell to all making at least one Test double century over the past six months.
