London, Dec. 9 (ANI): John Daly has asked fellow golfers to refrain from attacking Tiger Woods for cheating on wife Elin Nordegren, as the World No.1 has done a lot for the golfing world.

Daly, 43, has sprung to Woods’ defence and claimed the only reason the prize money in golf is so huge is purely down to his fellow American.

“He will get through it - I wish them the best. I’m not too happy with what some of the players have said about him,” The Mirror quoted Daly, nicknamed ‘The Wild Thing’, as saying.

“Theoretically, if you think about it, it’s because of Tiger that we’re playing for so much money and hopefully he and Elin can work it out. With his record and the way he plays, he just brings people out and he raises the bar for all of us to play better golf as well,” he added.

Woods’ reputation as a clean-cut sponsors’ dream is in tatters after a number of women claimed to have had affairs with him.

And players like Jesper Parnevik, who first introduced Woods to his wife, have slammed the superstar for his behaviour in a blistering attack.

Daly no stranger to controversy himself after four divorces and battles with booze and gambling addictions.

Most recently he was banned from the PGA Tour in the US for drunken behaviour in October 2008.

But the two-time Major winner has cleaned up his act after shedding 52 kilograms following weight loss surgery. (ANI)
