Paramus, Aug 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A professional golfer Furyk missed his pro-am time because he overslept. His reason for oversleeping? He did set his phone’s alarm and the phones battery suddenly died.

For missing the pro-am event, Furyk has been disqualified from the first of this year’s four FedEx Cup play off events. Fauryk was on line to win the prize money of $ 10 million. He was third on the leader board and though missing the event is not likely to send him far down the standings, his chances of winning the ultimate seems low now.

When he realized that he was late when he woke up at 7:23 am, Fauryk just picked his clothes and forgot to lace his boots or put on his belt when he rushed to the Ridgewood Country Club. Though he reached there at 7:35 am, he was already 5 minutes late for the start of the event and that entailed automatic disqualification.

This is not the first time that Fauryk has been late for his pro-am. He was late sometime back but he was allowed to play, because then the rule then did not talk about automatic disqualification.

The PGA rules were changed in 2004 to ensure that players attend the pro-am event. Since the introduction of the rule, Retief Goosen has been disqualified during the Nissan Open in 2005 when he overslept and never attended the pro-am event.
