Goa legislators to leave early, watch cricket

Panaji, March 29 (IANS) The Goa assembly Tuesday unanimously resolved to end its proceedings early on Wednesday so that the legislators could watch the India-Pakistan cricket World Cup semifinals. The legislators will skip the lunch break to make up for the lost time.

Deputy Speaker and Congress member Mauvin Godinho moved the resoution to finish proceedings by 2 p.m. so that the lawmakers could cheer Team India.

Leader of the opposition and former chief minister Manohar Parrikar supported him.

Parrikar told IANS that the 40 legislators will skip their lunch to make up for the lost time.

“We will be skipping lunch tomorrow (Wednesday) and we will have an extended session Thursday,” the former chief minister said.

The India-Pakistan encounter in Mohali has generated unprecedented excitement across the country.
