Gillespie warns Australia to be wary of Zimbabwe’s spinners

Sydney, Feb 18 (ANI): Former Test paceman Jason Gillespie, who is now coaching in Zimbabwe’s first-class competition, has asked the Australian team to beware of Zimbabwe’s spin attack.

Australia’s opening game is against Zimbabwe in Ahmedabad on Monday and the team has only one specialist spinner in their squad, Jason Krejza.

Gillespie said that unheralded names like Ray Price, Graeme Cremer and Prosper Utseya lacked the experience of their Indian and South African counterparts, but they all deserved respect.

Left-arm finger-spinner Price and offie Utseya are accurate but not big turners of the ball, but Cremer, 24, was “one of the better leg-spinners in world cricket,” The Age quoted Gillespie, as saying.

“I think he’s got a lot of talent. He’ll certainly be someone who I’d love Shane Warne to spend some time with because I think he could really develop his game,” he said.

“He’s a big wicket-taking bowler, who I think the Aussies will have to respect. Not just Cremer but all the Zimbabwean spinners, because if they don’t they could be in a bit of strife,” Gillespie added. (ANI)
