Lahore, May 26 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)s proposed Constitutional reforms package is not aimed at initiating a clash with President Pervez Musharraf, but rather at restoring the balance of power by giving parliament more authority.
The Daily Times quoted Gilani as saying that the 1973 Constitution at present was neither in a parliamentary nor in a presidential form due to the amendments made to it over the past nine years.
He said the PPP believed in a parliamentary system of government and wanted to implement its policies, but without confronting anyone.
Gilani said he respected the President because he was a part of Pakistans parliamentary system, and added that the PPP would distribute copies of the draft constitutional reforms package to its coalition partners. Modalities for its implementation would be decided after consultation with them, he added.
Explaining a three-point programme devised by his government, Gilani said: We will hold a dialogue with the people who would disarm themselves to bring them into the mainstream politics, start a development programme and create job opportunities on a revolutionary basis. (ANI)
