Giggs calls on Man U’s World Cup players to ‘hit the ground running’
July 15th, 2010 - 2:34 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 15(ANI): Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has told his teammates to get rid of their World Cup hangover or risk blowing the club’s title push.
Crucial players including Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Park Ji-Sung have missed United’s pre-season tour of Canada and the US following their World Cup duty.
“It’s always difficult after a World Cup because the players who have been involved in the tournament have time off,” The Sun quoted Giggs, as saying.
“You just hope there’s no hangover from South Africa and everyone can hit the ground running. Hopefully, our players will come back refreshed and we can get off to a good start,” he added.
The 36-year-old further believes that the league is going to be very competitive again.
“Teams have got a little bit closer together - those that were on the fringe of things have got better and caught up. Manchester City obviously have a lot of money to spend, Spurs did well last season - as did Aston Villa,” Giggs said.
“So, it will be really interesting to see who is in the top four at the end of the season. My main aim is to win the title back. United are always there or thereabouts, but winning it is the important thing and we want it back,” he added. (ANI)
