Ghosal, Pallikal in title round of National Squash championship
December 9th, 2011 - 11:37 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Dec 9 (IANS) There were no surprises as top seeds and title favourites Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal led the singles fields into the finals of the senior National Squash championship here on Friday with straightforward victories.
Defending champion Ghosal put out Ravi Dixit 11-4, 11-7, 11-6, to set up a title clash with Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu who defeated Siddharth Suchde 11-5, 11-8, 12-10, in the men’s semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Pallikal had it easy against Ankita Sharma (Maharashtra), winning 11-2, 11-6, 11-5, and will take on promising teenager Anaka Alankamony who overcame Aparajitha Balamurukan 11-8, 11-4, 11-3.
Of the four semi-final matches, the Sandhu-Suchde encounter produced much entertainment. The match could have gone either way but for Suchde’s unbridled aggression that cost him crucial points especially in the front court while Sandhu preferred to bide his time before going in for the kill.
