Getting Gilchrist out early key to Deccan Chargers victory: Lehman
April 16th, 2011 - 11:48 am ICT by ANIHyderabad, Apr 16 (ANI): Deccan Chargers coach Darren Lehman is hopeful that his former Australian teammate Adam Gilchrist doesn’t fire on the ground when his team faces Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
The coach said this at Hyderabad on the eve of the next match against Kings XI Punjab on Saturday.
“Obviously, he (Adam Gilchrist) is a good player. One of the greats of the game; hopefully he doesn’t go off like he did for Deccan occasionally. We have to get him early because he can score at a good rate. So, we have to ball at really good areas,” said Darren Lehman.
Gilchrist had captained the Deccan Chargers in the first three editions of the IPL before being bought by the franchise of Kings XI Punjab.
The former Australia wicketkeeper was also instrumental in guiding his team to the title in the second edition, held in South Africa.
Lehman also said that his team would not just focus on Gilchrist and that it has a plan for every player.
“So, again just be on the day, no excuse, we have plans and plays the best. We have a plan for the batsmen and the bowlers. It will get down and just the execution on the day, and who stands the pressure the best,” added Lehman.
This season, Deccan Chargers has consecutively lost games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.
