Hamburg, May 11 (DPA) Germany’s coach Joachim Loew says it will be “difficult” for him to stay on as national team coach after the World Cup if he feels there is not complete confidence in him.
Loew has also ruled out immediately taking on a coaching job at club level should negotiations with the German football federation DFB fail to lead to a new contract.

Loew told Sport Bild’s special World Cup edition to appear Wednesday he was not bothered by the fact that his future as national team coach was still uncertain going into the June 11-July 11 World Cup in South Africa.

Talks between Loew and the federation on a contract extension broke down early in February.

“First of all I can live well with the situation. Secondly, if it comes to it and I have to leave the DFB it would be for me unthinkable to start immediately at a club,” he said.

Loew, 50, who has been in charge of the national team since the 2006 World Cup, said a condition of his continuing as Germany coach was to feel complete confidence in his work.

“If this basic trust is not there it will be difficult,” he said.

Loew said he had been hurt by “indiscretions” during his contractual talks with the DFB during which some details of the negotiations became public.

Loew’s comments should put an end to speculation he could be tempted to coach a Bundesliga club after the World Cup.

“There are other coaches such as Luiz Felipe Scolari or Luis Aragones who can do that after a tournament. I couldn’t,” he said.

Loew has named a preliminary 27-strong World Cup squad. The players meet up in Dusseldorf Wednesday ahead of a friendly match against Malta in Aachen Thursday, and then will begin a regenerative training camp at Sicily.

Germany will then go into a second training camp in South Tyrol, Italy and have lined up friendlies against Hungary May 29 and Bosnia-Herzegovina June 3 before the squad flies to South Africa June 6.

Germany are in Group D with games against Australia (June 13), Serbia (June 18) and Ghana (June 23).
