Cape Town, July 3 (DPA) Germany demolished a hapless Argentina 4-0 at the Green Point stadium here Saturday to reach the World Cup football semifinals and send Diego Maradona’s team home.
Thomas Mueller put Germany 1-0 up in the third minute with a glancing header from a Bastian Schweinsteiger free-kick and Miroslav Klose added a second from a Lukas Podolski pass in the 68th minute.
Arne Friedrich scored the third after a brilliant Schweinsteiger run and cross and Klose scored his second, and Germany’s fourth, a minute before time. It was the Bayern Munich striker’s 14th World Cup goal.
Having cruelly exposed Argentina’s defensive naivety, the Germans now go on to play Spain or Paraguay in Durban Wednesday.
