Schaffhausen (Switzerland), March 4 (DPA) German handball Bundesliga player Sebastian Faisst collapsed and died Tuesday evening during a game of the German under-21 side against their Swiss counterparts.
Faisst, who was to turn 21 Saturday, collapsed whilst running back towards his goal in the 34th minute of the game, the German handball federation said on their website.
The team doctor Kurt Steuer and another doctor tried for an hour unsuccessfully to resuscitate the TSV Dormagen player and Steuer said that he thinks a blood vessel burst.
The game was abandoned after the death and players received counselling.
Faisst, who was considered as one of the most talented players in German handball, led his team onto the field and scored Germany’s first goal.
