New York, Nov 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The New York Yankees were adamant through out the whole of the World Series 2009 that they hoped for another title win for their team owner George Steinbrenner.

The old owner of the team was always mentally present with the team, physically he was in Tampa, Fla., when New York beat Philadelphia 7-3 on Wednesday night to win the World Series 2009. The World Series 2009 win brought immense happiness to the 79-year-old owner.

“He’s the reason we’re here,” Jeter said. “First of all, we wouldn’t be in this stadium if it wasn’t for him. We wouldn’t have this group together if it weren’t for him. This is a special moment. We all tried to win it for him. He deserves it.”

Steinbrenner had bought the team in 1973 and this was his 7th Series win, which is a record of sorts. He turned over the day-to-day operation of the team to his son, Hal in November 2008.

“Dad, I know you’re at home watching with mom,” Hal Steinbrenner said after he accepted the championship trophy. “This one is for you.”

“He’s happy now,” Hank Steinbrenner said. “Like I said, he was just, I say teary-eyed, emotional, very emotional.”
