London, Sep 26(ANI): Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne, who is infamous for his alcoholic habits, has gone off the bend again after reportedly drinking more than 40 cans of lager during a 13-hour booze bender at a London hotel.

Jade Freeman, the young woman befriended by Gascoigne, said that he was sobbing all the time and was repeatedly saying that he wanted to die, as he was reeling from the death of his hero, Sir Bobby Robson, and reports that his mother has cancer.

“He put on Phil Collins and said it always made him think of Bobby, who was like a dad to him. He burst into tears and said everyone was leaving him. Then he drank six beers in 20 minutes like it was water. I told him to slow down but he said it didn’t matter. He says he wants to die because when his mum goes he’ll be alone,” The Sun quoted Freeman, as saying.

“He’s on a different planet. His body will give up soon. It’s awful to watch. Without rehab he’ll be dead in 18 months,” she added.

Gascoigne is undergoing therapy for bulimia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, and alcoholism.

“He’s a lovely man, but he’s on a mission to kill himself. It’s one he will succeed in,” Freeman said.

Freeman had met Gascoigne outside another London hotel earlier this year. They have met several times since, although she insists they are just friends. (ANI)
