Dec 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the declaration of the BCS Power rankings, all the bowl game committees are now sure about which teams they would like to invite. Gator Bowl and the Southeastern Conference decided to clash two teams from league and the Big Ten. After the meeting, the Gator Bowl decided to invite 21st-ranked Mississippi State, with 8-4 to play against Michigan with 7-5.
The Gator Bowl is going to take place on January 1, at Everbank Field. The Mississippi State University is thereby going to face a rough challenge, as they would compete against Michigan, who is one of the leading teams of NCAA, with 884 victories. This is not the first time that MSU has qualified for the Gator Bowl, but probably the challenge they are going to face this time, would be one like never before. Gator Bowl president Rick Catlett said that Michigan as a team is like a brand and probably the strongest in the college football. However, Mississippi is also blessed with a good coach, Dan Mullen and therefore the match is going to be very interesting. However, Mississippi State was not the first option for the Gator Bowls. For several weeks they have been trying to schedule the match between Florida and Penn State. Since the Outback Bowl, who has the authority to choose their teams before the Gator Bowls, picked this option, the latter was left to choose from Mississippi State, Tennessee and Georgia. Certain circumstances soon prompted the Gator Bowl selection committee to pick MSU through an unanimous voting.
Gator Bowl chairman Stephen Tremel said that that they believe to have taken the right decision because Mississippi State has surpassed competent teams like Florida and Georgia this year. The fans of Mississippi state are overwhelmed with the Gator Bowls’ decision for giving them the opportunity to start their new year with a Bowl Game, which has not happened to them since 1998.
