Ganguly’s dream of playing in IPL over
February 4th, 2011 - 9:31 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Feb 4 (IANS) Sourav Ganguly’s chances of playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) is over after franchises objected to Kochi’s interest to buy the former India captain. At an IPL Governing Council meeting here, at least three franchisees opposed the move saying the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would be violating its own rule by selling a player out of auction.
“We faced stiff opposition from the franchises and we thought it was wise to take such a step,” a top official in the Governing Council told IANS.
The IPL Governing Council had called the meeting to discuss the fate of Ganguly, Wasim Jaffer and V.R.V. Singh, who went unsold at the IPL auction.
