Bangalore, March 4 (IANS) Hundreds of cheering and tri-colour waving fans gave a tumultuous welcome to the victorious World Cup Indian under-19 cricket team on arrival at the airport here. Slogans such as ‘World champs, Zindabad!’ and ‘Welcome home champs’ greeted the players at the airport as they got into a flower-bedecked open bus, to cover the 10-km journey to the Chinnaswamy stadium.
The bus was decorated with huge pictures of the team celebrating the victory at Kuala Lumpur.
Several fans carried garlands and strings of firecrackers to celebrate.
Those with garlands were disappointed as they could not get pass the large police contingent to meet the players. They had to be content with throwing the garlands at the bus.
India defeated South Africa in the World Cup under-19 finals at Kuala Lumpur.
