French Open: Sania-Vesnina in women’s doubles second round

Paris, May 24 (IANS) India’s Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina entered the women’s doubles second round of the French Open tennis here Tuesday.

Sania and Vesnina, seeded seventh, defeated the Russian pair of Vera Dushevina and Ekaterina Makarova 7-6(2), 6-2 in nearly an hour-and-a-half battle.

They next play Germany’s Kristina Barrois and Johanna Larsson of Sweden, who beat Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Sania also advanced to the singles second round Monday with a straight sets victory over Barrois. She next plays 12th seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.
