globeBuffalo, New York, July 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Free-agent center Rob Niedermayer has been signed by the Buffalo Sabres in a one-year deal, team officials revealed on Wednesday. After signing free-agent defencemen Jordan Leopold in a three-year contract last week, the 35 year old much acclaimed player was the team’s second free-agent signing. Given the rather dismal performance by the Buffalo Sabres in the playoffs last season in which they made an early exit in the first round itself, experts feel that Rob Niedermayer’s addition to the team would surely add the much-needed leadership quality that the Buffalo Sabres require at this point of time.

It is being widely speculated that the Canadian player would be able to offer experience to the Buffalo Sabres team which was in the third position when it entered the playoffs last season but unfortunately suffered a debacle in the first round itself by the Boston Bruins. Meanwhile, all the fans of Buffalo Sabres are delighted about the inclusion of the noted player in the team which has escalated their hopes of their favorite team’s victory in the upcoming games.

Rob Niedermayer was able to register victory in the Stanley Cup in the year 2007 when he was associated with the Anaheim Ducks. The 35 year old player has been successful in reserving 269 assists as well as 181 goals in around 1,082 National Hockey League games. The center player was fifth overall raft pick of the Florida Panthers way back in the year 1993 and was known to have been associated with the team for a period of eight seasons. Apart from these, Rob Niedermayer has also played for New Jersey Devils and Calgary Flames.
