Aug 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) BJ Penn had the perfect set up to take revenge for his UFC 112 loss to Frankie Edgar but his hopes were shattered as Frankie Edgar proved yet again that he is just too good for the ‘Prodigy’. The highly anticipated UFC 118 bout between the two fighters turned out to be a highly entertaining thriller for the audience with both fighters giving away little throughout the fight. In the end, however, Frankie Edgar won by the unanimous decision of the judges who marked identically in the 5 round to adjudge him the winner at 50-45.

In the first round BJ Penn started off by chasing Frankie Edgar around the ring, but the latter quickly took him down and landed a few quick punches. After getting to his feet BJ Penn landed another round of punches and kicks before Frankie Edgar took him down again. With two take downs in the very first round, the trend was set for the match with BJ Penn showing his strength on his feet and Frankie Edgar trying his best to take him down on the mat. The second round was closely fought and though BJ Penn managed to land some of his kicks, Frankie Edgar outdid him when it came to take downs again. In the third round, both fighters exchanged punches and kicks but most of them failed to land initially. Frankie Edgar took the round at 10-9.

In the last two rounds, Frankie Edgar dominated with quick succession of punches. Though BJ Penn had two initial takedowns at the beginning of both the rounds, he failed to capitalize on the good start. The judges gave identical scores in all rounds and adjudged in favor of Frankie Edgar with 50-45.
