- London, Nov 14(ANI): Formula One champion Jenson Button has met with McLaren officials, sparking off fresh rumours about McLaren having an all-British team alongside Lewis Hamilton.
Button and his manager Richard Goddard were given a tour of McLaren’s Woking headquarters.
“Having just arrived at Heathrow, Jenson made a detour to Woking to say hello,” The Sun quoted a McLaren spokesman, as saying.
Goddard said that Button is looking for a team, which can help him retain the title.
“Jenson wants to drive a car which is capable of winning the next world championship. We’ve been talking about terms for 2010 with Brawn for months and aren’t being difficult or unreasonably expensive in our demands,” Goddard said.
“In fact, we’ve given up quite a lot of negotiating ground in our discussions with them. It’s also important that Jenson wants to feel valued next season. He needs to explore all the feasible options,” he said.
However, former F1 champion Niki Lauda reckons that Button would be better off staying with Brawn.
“If I was Jenson, I’d try to stay with Brawn even if Ross might pay slightly less,” Lauda said.
“The other thing he must consider is that it is Lewis’ team and he needs to be sure he has the confidence to deal with it,” he added.
Button’s camp is demanding a huge rise in the world champion’s wages after he took a voluntary cut at the beginning of the season to stay on with the team in the wake of Honda’s departure. (ANI)
