Nov 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The world of surfing and the citizens of Hawaii are presently reeling with the news that three times Quiksilver Pro France champion is no more. The three times world champion was on his way home to Hawaii from Puerto Rico and died at a hotel near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where he was staying. Andy Irons pulled out of the Rip Curl Pro Search event owing to his illness and the media outlets are of the opinion that he possibly died because of Dengu Fever. Andy Irons was 32 year old.
The Association of Surfing Professionals expressed their condolence and released a statement yesterday where they confirmed the death of the veteran surfer. The statement also stated that Andy Irons withdrew from professional surfing event at Puerto Rico last weekend due to illness and he passed away during a “layover en-route” to his home in Kauai, Hawaii. Even Association of Surfing Professionals stated that Andy Irons had reportedly been battling with Dengue Fever, “a viral disease”. His family has also released a statement where they thanked his friends and fans for their support and asked for privacy where they deal with the “profound loss”. Dave Prodan, the international media manager of Association of Surfing Professionals called his death as the most “devastating” losses.
Andy Irons’ family has also asked not to contact them so that they can “focus” on only one thing at a time. Mark Occhilupo, the former world champion of Australia said that he was shattered to hear the news and remembered Andy Irons as a “vibrant” and lovely person. Andy Irons married his girlfriend Lyndie Dupuis in 2007 and his wife is pregnant with the couple’s first child. His family has not yet announced anything about the funeral arrangements.
