Former U.S. Skating Champion Nicole Bobek Sentenced To Five Years Probation

nicJersey City, New Jersey, Aug 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former United states skating champion Nicole Bobek has been sentenced to five years on probation for the role that she is known to have played in a crystal methamphetamine ring after she was pleaded guilty of the charges in the month of June this year. The 1995 United States women’s skating champion was among the 28 people who were responsible for carrying out a network that distributed methamphetamine worth a whopping $10,000 every week.

After the verdict was given out on Monday at the Jersey City courtroom, the renowned former skating champion told the reporters gathered outside that only positive things would emerge from the sentencing as it would give her the opportunity to get her life back on track. At the same time, the 32-year-old skater also expressed hope that she would be making a comeback onto the ice after she gets a hold over her life. Apart from facing the five year probation period, the court has also ordered Nicole Bobek to spend 250 hours in community service and pay a fine worth $2,500 while she would also have to shell out the additional court expenses. In the meanwhile, the former skating champion who was accompanied with her mother in the New Jersey courtroom is also reported to have made an application to serve the term of probation near her family home situated in Jupiter, Florida.

Nicole Bobek’s attorney Sam DeLuca had explained earlier that after the 1995 figure skating champion finished at the 17th position at the Winter Olympics of 1998, she suffered a major psychological setback and gradually doomed herself in “a sleazy world” which comprised of drug addiction and other negative influences.
