Former Proteas coach may help Aussies regain Ashes
February 10th, 2010 - 2:36 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Sydney, Feb 10 (ANI): Former Proteas coach Mickey Arthur, who was behind Australia’s demise at the top of world cricket, is looking to help Ricky Ponting’s side to reclaim the Ashes at the end of the year
Arthur led South Africa to the historic Test series win here last year to end Australia’s long-held run at No.1.
The former coach is hoping to take up a job with a Sheffield Shield side.
Having resigned as Proteas coach last month due to differences with the board, Arthur could become the highest-profile coach in Australia’s domestic-scene history after declaring his interest to the Herald.
Arthur has also been touted for jobs in England, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
But asked if he would consider helping England’s quest to retain the urn, Arthur replied: “I would rather help Australia. I would love to be involved in Australian domestic cricket somewhere.”
“It is an unbelievable country, South Africa is the closest to Australia in terms of our cultures, which are very similar, and the weather is great,” he said.
The frontrunners for Arthur’s signature would be Western Australia, who is in the midst of considering whether or not to offer an extension to coach Tom Moody, whose three-year contract expires next month.
Arthur also has an interest in coaching an Indian Premier League team next year. (ANI)
