Former NFL superstar Junior Seau arrested, released before driving off cliff in California

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) — Former NFL superstar Junior Seau was arrested on Monday morning on suspicion of domestic violence. He was later released and drove his vehicle off a cliff in Carlsbad, California, TMZ reported.

According to reports, Seau, 41, was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility at around 2 a.m. PDT but was later released at 3:20 a.m. PDT.

Several hours later, at 8:42 a.m. PDT, Carlsbad Police received a 911 emergency call to report that a white Cadillac Escalade was involved in an accident that ended with the vehicle being driven off a cliff a couple feet from the beach in Carlsbad, which is located 32 miles (51 kilometers) north of San Diego.

Officers arriving at the scene found an individual inside the vehicle who was identified as Seau. According to a witness who spoke to 10News, Seau drove his car off a cliff near Carlsbad Boulevard and Solamar drive.

Seau - a 9-time All-Pro and 12-time Pro-Bowler who was selected 5th overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 1990 NFL Draft - was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, but no further information was available. The extent of his injuries were also unknown.
