Former NFL Player David Meggett Sentenced To 30 Years In Jail

Charleston, Nov 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former New York Giants player David Meggett was convicted for rape and burglary in relation to an incident that took place in January 2009 at a house in North Charleston. With regard to both the charges that he has been found guilty of, the former National Football League player has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars. According to reports, David Meggett will have to serve the prison sentence concurrently and he would also not be eligible for a parole for a period of 25 years.
The case owing to which the former New England Patriots running back has been convicted involves an incident with a college student at her house in North Charleston which took place in the month of January, 2009. While revealing details of the case, the 42-year-old former NFL star’s attorney Beattie Butler has stated that the conviction would be appealed while adding that in the trial David Meggett did not stand in his own defence. At the same time, the lawyer went on to defend his client saying that encounter which resulted in the former New York Giants player’s conviction was nothing more than consensual sex which was followed by an ugly altercation.
David Meggett was associated with the National Football League between the years 1989 and 1998, as a running back and punt returner. During his active years, the former NFL star has played with the New York Giants for six years, New England Patriots for three years as well as the New York Jets for a year. Since his retirement from professional football in the 1998, David Meggett has been in the news for a series of sex-related crimes.
