alg_court_jayson-williams1New Jersey, Feb 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former NBA star Jayson Williams has been found guilty in an involuntary manslaughter. Jayson Williams will have to serve time in prison not less than 5 years. The New Jersey Nets star pleaded guilty on Monday to fatally shooting his limo driver with a shotgun. However, Jayson Williams shall be eligible for parole as early as summer 2011.

Jayson Williams (41), has been moving on bail since the 2002 mishap. He tearfully apologized to the victim’s family as he was being sentenced to be put behind the bars. Jayson Williams admitted quite readily how he overlooked the safety lock of the shotgun which fired off a round, killing Costas (Gus) Christofi (55). Jayson Williams said that the whole thing took place due to a chance mishap and that in 2003, he had vested $2.75 million hoping to settle the civil death suit.

Jayson Williams pleading guilty drew the final line to the eight year trial charge story. It also brought about the righteous justice that the victim family had been seeking. Jayson Williams was acquitted in 2004 and convicted of cover-up charges. It appears that he had already lost the grasp on his own life as well. His wife has filed for divorce against him recently. Jayson Williams has been charged previously for having stiff encounters with an individual whom he had punched on the face outside a North Carolina bar. The Somerville court witnessed Jayson Williams all in tears, apologizing to the victim’s sister Andrea Adams saying, “There’s not a day I wake up that I don’t feel sorry for what I did to Mr. Christofi and that I put you through this.”
