Former MBL Pitcher Roger Clemens Indicted For Lying To Congress About Steroids

Washington, Aug 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens has been charged with putting forward untrue statements and lying to Congress as part of the probe regarding his usage of performance enhancing drugs. The former pitcher was indicted by a federal grand jury of the United States district court for the District of Colombia on Thursday. It has been reported that Roger Clemens has been indicted on as many as six counts which includes obstructing Congress, making false statements as well as perjury.
Following the verdict, a statement was released by the prosecutors that read if the 48-year-old former baseball player is convicted of the charges levied against him then he might have to spend around 21 months behind bars, as per the sentencing guidelines of the United States. The indictment that was handed over on Thursday stated that the seven-time winner of the Major Baseball League’s Cy Young Awards got injections of anabolic steroids while he was a playing in the MBL, a fact that he denied in the hearings that was held in this regard in month of February, 2008. In the meanwhile, U.S. Attorney’s office in Washington spokesperson Bill Miller has confirmed that although Roger Clemens has not been taken into custody by the authorities, he would be appearing for arraignment by U.S. Judge Reginald Walton.
Roger Clemens is the latest addition to the ever-increasing list of Major Baseball League players who are facing charges of using banned performance-enhancing drugs which includes players such as Former San Francisco Giant Barry Bonds, San Diego Padres player Miguel Tejada, among others.
