Former captains Border, Taylor and Waugh to lead revival of Australian cricket
March 11th, 2011 - 1:58 pm ICT by ANISydney, Mar 11 (ANI): Former captains Allan Border, Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh, will join former International Cricket Council chief executive Malcolm Speed on a panel chaired by former BHP chief executive Don Argus to restructure Australian cricket.
This summer’s Ashes debacle prompted the review. “Australians don’t like losing. To lose the Ashes twice in a row … The review will be wide-ranging,” Cricket Australia chairman Jack Clarke said.
Clarke said the panel could look where it chose within a budget yet to be framed, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Even if Australia wins the World Cup, it will not be lulled into thinking that its work is done. But the panel would not individualise, said Clarke.
“It’s about setting up processes, structures, systems to give Australian cricket the best chance of having sustained future success. It will not be a witch hunt,” he said.
But the brief poses problems. One is that it will cross a separate review into the governance of Australian cricket, led by businessmen David Crawford and Colin Carter, and a third review- yet to be convened - into financing.
Clarke said he thought duplication would be minimal. (ANI)
