Former Australian players blast Clarke’s men
November 12th, 2011 - 8:52 pm ICT by IANSMelbourne, Nov 12 (IANS) The Australian cricket team has come under heavy criticism from former players after their embarrassing eight wicket loss to South Africa in the first Test at Newlands, Cape Town.
Kim Hughes blasted the side for its “abysmal” performance and the manner in which they capitulated in the second innings.
“Tell the new selectors I’m available. I may be 57, but I reckon I could have done better.
“It wasn’t as if Curtly Ambrose was tearing in at a hundred miles an hour on a WACA green top with the Fremantle Doctor at his back,” Hughes was quoted as saying by The Australian.
“It was shambolic. The effort from our batsmen was embarrassing and humiliating.”
Former opening batsman, Mark Waugh, took a dig at the dismal effort of the Australian batsmen, describing the scoreline as “pretty embarrassing”.
Former Test keeper and NSW chairman of selectors Brian Taber too didn’t mince any words, criticizing Australia’s “lack of commitment”.
“The second-innings scoreline is unbelievable,” he said
“The pitch wasn’t to blame, it wasn’t a minefield.
“It’s just our blokes went out there in the mistaken belief they already had the game won after Michael Clarke posted a big hundred.”
