London, Nov 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) FIFA flew its flag at half mast on Monday in tribute to the death of Welsh soccer star Gary Speed. The world woke up to real shock after reports that the 42-year-old had taken his own life on Monday.

The Welsh FA is mourning the death of its manager. In a statement from the soccer governing body to the Welsh association, FIFA president Sepp Blatter said that, “Gary Speed was a hugely talented player and a great servant for both club and country who will be greatly missed. He will always be remembered as a model professional and a fantastic ambassador for the game.”

The British Prime Minister David Cameron expressed his sadness at the news. A spokesperson of the British leader told newsmen that his thoughts are with the family left behind.

The police have announced an inquest into the death of Speed on Tuesday. The former footballer was found dead at his home on Monday. The police say he might have committed a suicide although the coroner’s report has not been released. His body was found hanging at the garage of the family’s home in Huntington. It is not clear what might have moved him to take such a decision.

Police say they are not treating the incident as suspicious.

He left behind his wife, Louise and two sons.
