Football Coach Don Coryell Passes Away At 85

San Diego, July 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Highly acclaimed American football coach Don Coryell who is considered to be one of the architects of the modern passing game, passed away on Thursday. The former San Diego Chargers coach was 85 years old at the time of his demise. The news of his death has been confirmed by the team which revealed that the renowned coach breathed his last at the Sharp Grossmont Hospital situated in suburban La Mesa on Thursday.
Although it has been validated that Don Coryell is no more, the cause of his demise has not been released to the media. However, the former San Diego Chargers coach is known to have been suffering from failing health for quite some time now. Since the news of Don Coryell’s passing away has spread, condolences have been pouring from various quarters as people who have had the privilege to work with the legendary coach still trying to come to terms with the fact that the ex-coach is no more.
Dean Spanos, the president of the San Diego Chargers has stated that he was ‘terribly saddened’ by the news of Don Coryell’s demise. While talking about the former coach and his illustrious career, the Chargers president added that Don Coryell was instrumental in revolutionizing the game of football not only for the San Diego Chargers but for the entire National Football League.
Don Coryell who has a career record of 111-83-1, coached for 14 seasons with the NFL which included five seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers. He was famous for his innovations with the game’s passing offense which came to be known as ‘Air Coryell.’
