Floodights glitches at Wankhede
March 18th, 2011 - 11:19 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, March 18 (IANS) One of the four floodlight towers at the refursbished Wankhede Stadium breifly went off during the Sri Lanka-New Zealand World Cup Group A encounter here Friday.
The floodlight tower at the Divecha Pavilion conked off during the 27th over of New Zealand innings. The play, however, continued and the tower started working shortly.
The stadium, which has undergone massive overhauling, staged it’s first international match in three years Sunday. Friday’s match is its first
day-night encounter under the new floodlights.
The venue will host the World Cup final April 2.
Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) joint secretary Lalchand Rajput had told IANS Thursday that Friday’s match will be a dress rehearsal for the final.
