Fletcher doesn’t rule out coaching South Africa
January 15th, 2011 - 9:09 pm ICT by IANSJohannesburg, Jan 15 (IANS) Former England coach Duncan Fletcher is tightlipped about taking up the coaching reins of South Africa but says he would be interested if an offer came his way.Cricket South Africa is looking for Corrie van Zyl’s successor as he will quit after the Cricket World Cup in the sub-continent.
Fletcher, currently a batting consultant with the Proteas till the World Cup, said he is happy with his present role in the side and would like to focus on his job.
“You have only got to wait another month to find out,” said Fletcher at a media conference here Friday.
“From my point of view, I am not going to say I would like a job (coaching the Proteas), I am not going to say I would not like a job at the moment.
“My last coaching job was in 2007 and if something came up, I would look at it. I am not being rushed and I’m not desperate for it at this stage and feel I can really contribute with my role now,” said Fletcher.
The former Zimbabwe captain said he relishes the role of being a batting coach.
“I have been very fortunate with the work I am doing with South Africa. I have been doing some work with Hampshire and Zimbabwe, and recently in New Zealand and I quite enjoy this aspect of it.”
