First likely case of doping at CWG: Nigerian 100m gold medallist tests positive
October 11th, 2010 - 12:42 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Oct 11 (ANI): Nigeria’s women’s 100m gold medallist Osayemi Oludamola, who claimed gold after favourite Sally Pearson’s disqualification, has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance in what appears to be first case of doping at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.
Oludamola finished behind Pearson in 11.32 seconds before the Australian was disqualified.
Nigerian media reports that Osayemi Oludamola’s A sample has tested positive for a banned stimulant and her B sample is yet to be tested.
Athletics Federation of Nigeria President Solomon Ogba said the positive result is due to a medication for toothache she took.
“She took medication for her toothache and we strongly suspect that it was that, which led to her failed drug test,” Ogba told Nigerian news site ‘Vanguard’.
A press conference has been scheduled in the afternoon, where Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell is expected to confirm the positive result.
If confirmed, it would be the first positive dope test of these Games.
Yesterday, Oludamola competed in the 200m semis but did not qualify for the final. (ANI)
