London, Aug 17(ANI): With the US Open just two weeks away, British tennis ace Andy Murray believes that he is ready to win a grand slam after his triumphs over the world’s top two singles players Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the same tournament.
Murray clinched his first title of the year with a magnificent straights-set 7-5, 7-5 victory over Federer in the final of the Toronto Masters.
“I always said that I’d play my best tennis between 23 and 27. I think there’s a lot of things that I’ve had to learn,” The Telegraph quoted Murray, as saying.
“Mentally I’ve got much stronger over the last few years, physically as well I’ve got much stronger, and now I’m starting to play the right way, the way that I feel comfortable on the court, that makes me feel relaxed and calm in my mind and I feel good,” he added.
The 23-year-old, who has always been an emotional character on court, further said that his new-found calmness had paid dividends during the tournament.
“If you can put the emotions and how you’re feeling into the way you’re playing rather than showing it after every point, sort of saving it up and putting it into the points and the rallies - I felt like it worked well,” Murray said.”It was one of the best weeks I’ve had. It was just kind of expressing myself with the way I was playing. I played pretty free-flowing tennis and didn’t get too nervous,” he added. (ANI)
