FIFA’s Blatter comfortable with Ronaldo’s 80 mn pound dealJune 13th, 2009 - 11:57 pm ICT by IANS
London, June 13 (IANS) FIFA President Sepp Blatter has dismissed concerns over mega transfer deals like Real Madrid’s 80 million pound world record offer for Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
“What does 80 million pounds mean when 10 years ago, another player with the same name (Ronaldo of Brazil) moved from one club to another for 50 million pounds? It means that there is still a demand to have the stars. We are in a crisis but football is a fantastic product,” the English media quoted Blatter as saying.
In the past, Blatter had been critical of the huge sums of money in the game, but Friday said that the increasing figures indicate football’s increasing popularity.
Despite concerns from UEFA chief Michel Platini, Blatter saw no wrong in the huge transfer deal between Manchester United and Real Madrid.
