Feb 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In an International Football Association Board meeting that is scheduled to take place next month, FIFA authorities are expected to debate about whether player should be banned from wearing snoods during the matches due to safety concerns. Whether the winter accessory should be allowed to be worn by players, has become a bone of contention as it might pose a potential danger to their safety. While a player is running after a goal and his opponent grabs the snood, it might result in choking, officials have reiterated. The meeting of the governing body where the issue is likely to be discussed would be held on March 5.
According to a FIFA spokesperson, the governing body wants a debate on the issue to reach a conclusion about whether snoods can indeed be dangerous to the safety of the players. The neck wear has become a fashionable winter accessory among the Premier League players in the recent times with a number of stars footballers wearing the neck warmers, further contributing to its popularity. While the FIFA officials are set to take a decision on snoods in the next month’s meeting, the football fraternity is divided on the issue about whether the neck warmers are indeed a potential threat to the players.
A number of clubs have prohibited its player from adorning the snoods which includes Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who has banned players from wearing the winter accessory. However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger chooses to disagree from the Manchester United manager and claims that snoods helps players in keeping injuries at bay.
