Maranello (Italy), Jan 28 (DPA) Ferrari were the first Formula One team to unveil their 2010 car on Thursday and hope to race for the top of the championship as well.
“This world championship is very important for us,” said team chief Stefano Domenicali at the presentation of the F10 model at the team headquarters in Maranello.

Brazil’s Felipe Massa, back from severe skull injuries sustained in a crash in Hungarian GP qualifying in late July 2009, was due to drive the first laps in the car later Thursday on Ferrari’s Fiorano track.

The other driver, newly hired ex-world champion Fernando Alonso of Spain, will not get behind the wheel until next week.

Pre-season testing starts Monday in Valencia and the first race of the 2010 season is on March 14 in Bahrain.

Ferrari aim to rebound from a modest 2009 season in which they had to settle for fourth place in the constructors standings, with Kimi Raikkonen sixth in the drivers’ list.

McLaren are the next team to unveil their car Friday, with Sauber and Renault following Sunday.

Mercedes GP, boasting returning seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher, had a team and colours presentation early in the week and will simply have a rollout of the 2010 car on Monday in Valencia.
