Ferguson warns Man U players of summer axe

Alex Ferguson London, Apr 19 (ANI): Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has warned his players that he will not be afraid to axe them this summer.

Keeper Edwin van der Sar, 40, is joining Gary Neville, 36, in retirement and Paul Scholes, also 36, is leaning towards retirement.

Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen are out of contract, while Wes Brown and Tomasz Kuszczak are likely to be up for sale, The Sun reports.

Darron Gibson and Gabriel Obertan have struggled this season and a question mark still hangs over 30.75 million pounds club record signing Dimitar Berbatov.

United head to Newcastle tonight knowing they could still end the season by lifting both the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

But there are question marks over ten of their players going into the close season and Ferguson said he has never let emotions get in the way.

“It’s a horrible thing to say but you can’t be sentimental in this job. My job is to manage United, to produce results and I am no different from any other manager. I’ll not be regarded in the same way if I’m not successful,” he said.

“Everything to do with me is black and white. If it’s on the football field and I see something I feel is a retrograde step, I have to act and make decisions. It is something that I have always been good at. I can make quick decisions and I am lucky that way.

“In management, you have to be able to make decisions - sometimes you’re not right. But it doesn’t concern me too much because the important thing is being able to do it,” Ferguson said. (ANI)
