Ferguson wants ManU players to develop “Eye of the Tiger”April 11th, 2009 - 12:51 pm ICT by ANI
London, Apr 11 (ANI): Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants his players to develop the “Eye of the Tiger” attitude in their chase for the Quintuple.
The Old Trafford coach is hoping his weary squad can retain the same hunger and drive as the American golf legend.
Woods has won 14 majors and is the most decorated golfer still playing. But last month he showed his appetite for success had not been affected by a nine-month absence following knee surgery. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational Trophy at Bay Hill - as well as more admiration from Ferguson.
“I think it can be difficult for some types of person - that their nature, when they get into a comfortable zone, is to relax too much and they can’t get it back. Whereas real stars - you think of Tiger Woods - he’s been off golf for months, comes back after that knee operation and there he is, he wins that tournament last week,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
“You tell me what drives him on - it is that they’re special people. No matter how successful they are, they have a driving force in them that makes them want to win the next one and the next one - that’s their nature,” Ferguson said.
“Others’ nature is ‘oh I don’t need to go to work tomorrow, I’ve got enough money, I’ll retire at 30′. And you see people even in banking world or commerce and they retire at 45-50 years of age. They should be working till they’re 70,” he said.
Ferguson had tried to play down United’s chances of lifting five trophies this season even before their recent slump. But having made a mistake by opting to play twice in 48 hours last week, he admits the fixtures have now fallen well.
United face a crunch week at home and Europe with Champions League and FA Cup hopes on the line after today’s trip to Sunderland.
With less than two months of the domestic season to go, Fergie will tell his players to forget the last few weeks and look to the future. (ANI)
