Ferguson ‘thrilled’ at being recalled for ODI series against India
October 6th, 2010 - 3:11 pm ICT by ANISydney, Oct 6 (ANI): Australia has recalled Callum Ferguson for the three-match ODI series against India.
Playing for South Australia in the Champions League, Ferguson hit 200 runs in five matches with a strike rate of 151 after almost 12 months on the sidelines due to knee injury.
“I wasn’t holding my breath in getting picked for this series. So it’s a real thrill and I can’t wait to get over there,” Ferguson said on Wednesday.
Ferguson said it gave him great confidence that the national selectors were willing to rush him into the squad and was grateful that the Champions League had presented an opportunity to show he could still perform at the highest level.
“It was fantastic to get back out there, to get some time out in the middle and now it’s led to this. I thought it would take me at least 10 to 12 games to start feeling comfortable at the crease again, but it probably came a bit earlier,” he said.
“We did a lot of work in the nets and a lot of centre wicket stuff, so that’s probably helped me progress a little quicker than expected,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ferguson, as saying.
Ferguson said his reconstructed knee had responded well to his return to competition.
The right-hander ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament when he slipped while fielding in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy at Centurion, in South Africa, in October 2009. (ANI)
