Ferguson rules out ‘wholesale buying’ spree this summer

London, Apr 7 (ANI): Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out any “wholesale buying” this summer, and warned fans not to expect much when the players transfer window opens.
Ferguson’s statement will rekindle fears that the manager’s hands in the transfer market is tied by the club’s colossal debt, and it may be subject to some reappraisal should his team suffer another hefty blow this evening.
Having lost top spot to Chelsea in the Premier League title race on Saturday, United will go out of the Champions League tonight if they fail to overturn a 2-1 deficit in the second leg of their quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford, The Times reports.
Ferguson, though, appears to have other ideas, even if they are unlikely to appease opponents of the Glazer family, who have saddled United with debts totalling 716.5 million pounds.
“No wholesale buying is needed here as we have a very good squad that just needs tweaking here and there,” Ferguson told Inside United, the club’s official magazine.
“Looking at potential squad additions is an ongoing process - it’s not just confined to a certain time of year - although we obviously don’t reveal our plans.
We have some ideas at the moment, but not many players will be joining the club. But in any case, I think the transfer market prices have been terribly inflated over the last year,” he added. (ANI)
