Alex Ferguson London, Sep 12(ANI): Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly told Wayne Rooney to sort out his troubled marriage after dropping the striker from Saturday’s Premier League game against Everton.

The Everton clash was supposed to be Rooney’s first game in England since revelations about how he used 1,200 pounds-a-night prostitutes while his wife Coleen was pregnant with son Kai.

According to the Daily Express, Ferguson delivered the news to Rooney at the team’s Lowry Hotel in Manchester.

However, in the post-match press conference, Ferguson said he decided to drop the striker as he did not want to aggravate the traditional ill-feeling between Everton fans and their former star.

“We made a decision simply because he gets terrible abuse here. We are not going to subject him to that. We have a fantastic squad, but he will play against Rangers on Tuesday night,” Ferguson said.

Earlier, Rooney and Coleen had asked the media to respect their privacy, and said that they had a right to discuss “these matters” in private.

“The last six days have been extremely painful for us and for our families,” the duo said in a statement.

The couple also added that it was impossible for them to attempt to resolve the issues in the current media scenario and that they are facing a backdrop of so many inaccurate and intrusive stories. (ANI)
