London, Dec. 19 (ANI): Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson insists that a four-horse race for the Premier League title would be ‘fantastic’.
“The history of the league suggests that eventually it does become a two-horse race. But, from the spectator point of view, they would hope that four or five are involved in the last month - it would be fantastic,” The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.
Fergie is hoping that Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa becomes a party in the final furlong.
Chelsea is three points ahead of United, and Arsenal five points further back on 32 but with a game in hand. Villa moved level on points with the Gunners after their 1-0 victory at Old Trafford last Saturday.
“The form of Aston Villa does cause you to look over your shoulder. Their performance last week - even given that we missed some chances - was a very solid display by them. Apart from that, they would definitely be challenging. They’ve got some good ingredients about them,” The Sun quoted Fergie, as saying.
United aim to keep in touch with the top today when they visit Fulham.
“Fulham’s home record since Roy Hodgson has taken over has been fantastic. Who would have thought that Fulham would have got into Europe and qualify for the latter stages,” the old Trafford manager said.
“They made five changes on Wednesday night against Basel and they still won. It has been a remarkable turnaround since Roy has been there. It is down to the manager. No question he rescued them, he had something like four wins in five weeks,” he added. (ANI)
