London, Aug 26(ANI): England skipper Rio Ferdinand has defended manager Fabio Capello over the media criticism that he has received for the Three Lions’ dismal World Cup performance.

“We qualified in great style. The media people and those in the know who were saying he was ‘Don Fabio’ have now changed course,” The Telegraph quoted Ferdinand, as saying.

We didn’t play well at the World Cup, we know that. But it doesn’t make him a bad manager. A lot of people are jumping too far and too quick,” he added.

The 31-year-old further supports Capello on his statement that he is looking to freshen up the squad with younger players.

“He needs to make some big changes in the squad, but who are we to argue? We just do what he wants us to do. It’s about England winning, not us as individuals,” Ferdinand said.

During the World Cup, England had struggled to qualify from their Group C, drawing with the United States and Algeria, and was later humiliated by Germany in the Round of 16. (ANI)
