London, Dec 3 (ANI): England captain Rio Ferdinand says he had been gutted after his country lost to Russia in its bid to host the 2018 football World cup.
Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince William and Three Lions legend David Beckham led the bid for the 2018 World Cup.
Ferdinand expressed his disbelief after the FIFA vote, The Sun reports.
Speaking on his twitter account, he said: “Wow, Russia will host the 2018 World Cup, soooo gutted. What more could we have done? What did we do wrong? Prince William, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, Becks - all that effort and we still get overlooked.”
“I don’t care where the World Cup goes after we lost. I’m just devastated it isn’t here in England. I’m sooo gutted I can’t take my lil men to a World Cup game to watch England in England. An experience missed out on there,” Ferdinand wrote.
Ferdinand also pointed the finger of blame at the recent BBC Panorama programme, accusing FIFA of corruption.
He tweeted: “The timing of the Panorama programme was bad taste. Fact.”
Former England striker Alan Shearer, who was present for the announcement in Zurich, said: “We heard a rumour two or three minutes before we sat down in the auditorium that we hadn’t been successful.
“Congratulations to Russia, they had a fantastic bid but it is hard to swallow right now. The way our presentation went this morning with the guys who got up and spoke - they were absolutely magnificent,” he said. (ANI)
