- London, Oct 28 (IANS) Michael Fennell, Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) chief, met Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the 2010 Games Organising Committee (OC), on the sidelines of a briefing for the baton bearers on the eve of the Queen’s Baton Relay here.
Asked if there were any issues to be resolved, Fennell said: “We always have issues to resolve but we are talking.”
A formal meeting between Fennell and Kalmadi would take place Thursday afternoon after the Queen’s Baton Relay is launched by Queen Elizabeth II.
Fennell said the focus is on the event since it kick-starts the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
“The Baton and its journey are not only symbolic in many ways but is more than that as it enables so many people to be a part of the Games,” Fennell said.
“It is very important for all of us.”
Fennell and Kalmadi would have plenty to sort out when they formally meet Thursday.
Kalmadi has demanded the ouster of CGF chief operating officer Michael Hooper from Delhi. The OC has also rejected the CGF’s recommendation of setting up of a technical review panel to monitor the monthly progress of the work for the 2010 Games.
