Felix Hernandez Wins The American League Cy Young Award

felixNov 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The supporters of Seattle Mariners must be on cloud nine to know that their favorite Felix Hernandez has bagged the American League Cy Young Award on Thursday. Although he scored a very average record of 13-12, he made a mark with his league-leading 2.27 ERA, to be the most deserving candidate for the award.

Felix Hernandez surpassed the players like David Price of Tampa Bay and CC Sabathia of New York Yankees. Felix Hernandez who was overwhelmed with his achievement took no time to celebrate the occasion with his family back in Valencia, Venezuela. He said that Cy Young is an award that not only identifies the best pitcher with the most wins, but also the most dominant. He was second in strikeouts (232), yielded the lowest batting average (.212) from AL opponents, while leading the league’s in innings (2492/3). In a balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America, the 24 year old right hander got 167 points and bagged 21 of the 28 first-place votes. David Price also appreciated the achievement of Felix Hernandez and said that this award was well deserved by the player, even though he did not have a lot of win. He also added that he could win quite a few ballgames, had he been in a different team like the New York Yankees.

David Prince was shortly behind Felix Hernandez, and scores 19-6 with 2.72 ERA, taking the second position with four first-place votes and 111 points. He was immediately followed by CC Sabathia, with 21-7 and 3.18 ERA, to finished third at 102 points. So far, the Winloss record of Felix Hernandez is 7153, with 3.20 Earned run average and 1042 strikeouts.
